Located on Main Street in Wolfville, the Box of Delights is close to Acadia University and the Atlantic Theatre Festival. As a general bookshop they carry as many different and interesting titles as they can. They do focus on local history, children’s books, and fiction but tend to have a ‘little bit of everything’.
The Box of Delights Bookshop was incorporated in 1976. It is named for John Masefield’s children’s fantasy novel ‘The Box of Delights’, published in 1935, which became standard fare at Christmas on BBC radio. Growing up in England, the book was the favorite of the store’s original owner Hilary Sircom. She initially opened The Box of Delights in her home in Hantsport as a children’s bookshop. The current shop still boasts the playhouse her children used and has been claimed by another two generations.
The store was relocated to Main Street, Wolfville and expanded to become a general bookstore in 1976.
The DeWolfe family purchased the Box of Delights Bookshop in 1991. They computerized, updated, and revamped and continued to be a mainstay in the hub of Wolfville, offering a wide selection of books, cards, and calendars, as well as, good conversation and information.
